Obituary

In Loving Memory of Corene (Howe) Kunkler It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Corene, who left us on Thursday, May 29, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. She was always willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Born on August 14, 1945, as one of twelve children to Lloyd James and Maggie (Mitchell) Howe, Corene had a profound love for nature. She found joy in hunting mushrooms and ginseng, and picking wild berries, often sharing her bounty with family and friends. Her connection to the outdoors was a testament to her adventurous spirit and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. Corene was also a social butterfly, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Whether playing cards, enjoying lively conversations, or taking occasional trips to the casino, she brought laughter and joy to all gatherings and never met a stranger. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Corene leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a reminder to embrace the beauty of nature and the joy of togetherness. She is survived by one daughter, Tina Sturgeon; one sister, Mary Anne Drake; one brother, Orville Howe; nine grandchildren, Heather (Ben) Hill, Shane (Jessica) Cole, Maggie Mahaney, Haley Hayes, Brandi Mahaney, Meagan Sturgeon, Leah Sturgeon, Lance Sturgeon, & Madelyn Sturgeon; twelve great-grandchildren, Adrian, Hunter, Landen, Bentley, Coraline, Weslee, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Conner, Nolan, Kaden, & Ayven; and many other cherished family members. Corene was preceded in death by parents, Lloyd & Maggie; daughter, Kelly; grandson, Brandon, great- grandson, Randall; five brothers, Donnie, Ed, Kenny, Gary, & Jerry; and four sisters, Pauline, Dolly, Jessie, & Linda. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made at www.denbo-dillmanfuneralhomes.com
