Dorothy Maye Atkins, 101, of Taswell, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 12:05 P.M, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 11, 1916 in Orleans, Indiana to the late Zino and Sara (Lashbrook) Downey.
Dorothy was a member of Highfill Chapel Baptist Church, and an avid Bible reader. She taught Sunday school for over 60 years. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, birds, and reading. She married the late Gido Atkins and they spent over 60 happy years together.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; Zino and Sara Downey, her husband, Gido Atkins, her sisters; Lucille Moffatt, Laura Eickelberger, and Marion Hammond.
She is survived by her son Delbert (Judy) Atkins, her grandchildren; David (Dina) Atkins, Rebecca (Brian) Atkins - Weisheit, Daniel (Jody) Atkins, her great- grandchildren, Noah and Carter Atkins, Cameron Luther, Kylee Maye Weisheit, Hayley Weisheit and Alyssa Atkins, her niece Brenda Guest, and her nephew Phillip Moffatt.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 4:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M at Denbo Funeral Home in English, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with visitation from 10:00 A.M until time of service at Denbo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highfill Chapel Cemetery.
