Gary Hammond, age 74, of English, IN passed away at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY on Sunday, September 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 8, 1951 to the late Simon and Helen (Wiseman) Hammond. He married Penny Newton on December 24, 1971.

He is preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Chad, his parents, brothers, Ralph Hammond and Gordon Hammond. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ruth Brown, Shirley White, Joyce Hammond, and Janet Walton.

Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years Penny Hammond, children, Misty Hammond (Leroy) Kalb and Travis (Amber) Hammond. Grandchildren, Tyson Hopper, Taylor (Robbie) Babcock, Tegan Hammond, River Hammond. He is also survived by a brother, Bob Hammond and a sister, Louise (Othel) Wright. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Gary was an avid traveler, loving to experience new places. He was known for his sense of humor, always joking and aggravating his grandchildren. Gary never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Gary served our county with honor, serving in the United States Army.

Visitation will be at the Denbo Funeral Home in English, IN on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4-7. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Paul Richardson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service time on Thursday. Burial will be in the Taswell Cemetery with Military Rites to honor Gary.
