Obituary

John "Jackie" Hunter, 86, of Paoli, passed away on Tuesday August 12, 2025, at Indian Creek Healthcare Center.

He was born on March 31, 1939, in New Albany, Indiana to John Clifford and Louise A. (Edwards) Hunter.

John married Mary Lou (Chism) on May 16, 1980. He worked as a Supervisor Mechanic with Whayne Supply from 1988 until he retired. John was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a cherished part of the Wildwood Community in Paoli. John loved tinkering in his garage and working on engines, he always stayed busy. He loved all kinds of racing, especially NASCAR. John was known for his friendly nature and willingness to lend a hand. He loved spending time with Mary Lou and taking drives in the country.  He loved to spend time with his family and will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Lou Hunter who passed away on August 15, 2020, and Linda Duggan Hunter, his son, Johnny L. Duggan, and his brother, Clifford Eugene Hunter.

He is survived by his children; Billy (Cindy) Hunter,  Jimmy (Sheila) Duggan, Tina (Charles) Rake, Robin (Kurt) McCormick, Paul (Rebecca) Hunter, Katie (Mike) Cundiff, Joe Duggan, Jamie (Kathy) Hunter, his grandchildren; Natalie Duggan, Justin Rake, Natasha Hunt, Ryan Hunter, Jenny Gaylord, Ashley Byerly, Stephen Jackson, Trisha Beninato, Kurt McCormick Jr., Heather Hartwick, Paul Hunter Jr., Catalya Hunter, Michael Cundiff Jr., Jacob Cundiff, Nicholas Cundiff, Mackenzie Duggan, Keria Duggan, Mary Nielsen, James Nielsen, and 25 great- grandchildren, his siblings, MaryAnn (George) Weidner, Norma Sue Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday August 18, 2025, at 5:00 P.M at Denbo Funeral Home in English, Indiana with Rev. Kim Jellison to officiate. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M until the time of service at 5:00 P.M. A private burial will follow in Cap Anderson Cemetery in Bradenburg, KY.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Gentiva Hospice in memory of John Hunter.
