John W. Van Pelt Jr., age 72 of Marengo, Indiana. Died at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Univeristy of Louisville Hospital in Lousiville, Kentucky.

He was born on March 29, 1941 in Greenwood, Indiana

To: John Wm Van Pelt Sr. and Glenna Irene (Boner) Van Pelt.

On October 13, 1961 he married Brigitte A. (Brendel) Van Pelt and she survives.

He was a retired construction contractor, a graduate of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Indiana and was a member of the Greenwood Christian Church.

John was a Army veteran and was the Commander of the American Legion Post 84 in Marengo. He loved the outdoors where he could hunt and fish; he also enjoyed NASCAR, Basketball and Football.

He is survived by:
His Wife: Brigitte A. Van Pelt; Two Dauthers: Vickie A. Doss of Indianapolis, Indiana; Carolyn U. Van Pelt of Marengo, Indiana; One Brother: Oran Lee Van Pelt of Huntsville, Alabama; Two Sisters: Bobbi Terhune of Greenwood, Indiana; Brenda Lee Gilles of Greenwood, Indiana;

Along with four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by:

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13th at the Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo with burial to follow in the Marengo City Cemetery. There will be military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
