Kenneth Wayne Speed, age 95, of Miffin, IN passed away peacefully at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, IN.
He was born near Eckerty on July 2, 1921, to Monroe and Lennie (VanWinkle) Speedy. He graduated in 1939 from French Lick High School. Kenneth married Clara (Smith) Speedy on January 15, 1947.
Kenneth served in World War ll in Italy with the Army in the 10th Mountain Infantry.
Ken enjoyed tracing genealogies and collected local history. He was a very caring and giving father and grandfather not only to his family, but to those in his church and community. He especially loved and enjoyed all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kenneth was a dairy farmer and served as Crawford County Surveyor and was a director for Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative and was involved in many farm organizations.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Lennie Speedy, sister Sylvia Leasor, Evelyn Jordan, and Joyce Walton. He is survived by his wife, Clara Speedy, sisters Helen Dunlap, Dorothy Byers, Norma Jean Buford and Wanda Buford Carr, three children Shirley (Stephen) Shields of Rockport, Steven (Wanda) Speedy of Mifflin and Doris Holzbog of Huntingburg, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. at Denbo Funeral Home, English, IN.
Visitation will be Monday, August 8, from 3:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Denbo Funeral Home, English, IN.
Burial will follow at Bethany Union Cemetery, Eckerty, IN.
