Obituary

Lila Estel (Allen) Deich, 91 of Oxford, Florida, formerly of Eckerty, Indiana passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1933 in English, Indiana to the late Torrance and Elma Fay (Allstott) Allen and attended school with her twelve siblings in English Indiana.

Along with her parents, Lila is proceeded in death by her daughter Linda (Deich) Clem, siblings: infant sister Betty Jean Allen, Oral Allen, Robert Allen, Howard Allen, Frederick Allen, Roberta Morgan, Eugene Allen, Ermel Allen, and Bill Allen.

On April 12, 1952, Lila married Coy James Deich and together they started their life as a military family with the United States Air Force. They traveled the world to include assignments to Japan, Colorado, Mississippi, Missouri, Alaska and New York. Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Deich retired at Rome, New York and returned to their home state of Indiana in 1974. Lila and Coy were an inseparable couple who did everything together in their 72 years of marriage. She was a loving mother and an inspiration to her four children.

In retirement, Lila was a long-time resident of Eckerty, Indiana and enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, gardening, and canning, and was a member of the Homemaker's Club. Lila lived for a time in Loogootee, Indiana before moving to Florida in 2023. She enjoyed hunting, fishing at Patoka and Boggs Lake, traveling, well into her 80s, and frequently visited friends and family. While keeping an active social life, Lila loved talking to anyone and everyone. She would spend hours in her later years talking to friends and family on the phone if she wasn't able to visit personally. She enjoyed family gatherings and loved life to the fullest.

Lila is survived by her loving husband Ret. Lt. COL Coy Deich; children, David (Barbara) Deich, Mark (Teri) Deich, Jo Ann (Jon) Spurr; Grandchildren, Jeremy (Jayme) Horton, Bethlena (Horton) Williams; Devin (Michelle) Deich, Aaron (Heather) Deich; Jared (Nicky) Deich, Joshua (Amanda) Deich, Keri (Charlie) Simmons, Richelle (Bryan) Dietz,; Jacob Spurr, Jason Spurr, and Jonathan "Jack" Spurr. Great Grandchildren: Justin Clark, Elijah Horton, Xavier Horton; Jackson Deich, Brady Compton, Kayla Compton, Leaha Compton, Braeden Fields; Nathan Deich, Matthew Deich; Kaori Harris, Arwen Deich; Bryan Dietz, Victoria Dietz. Siblings: Twin sister, Lola Deich, and Ronnie (Sheilla) Allen and several Great-Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Denbo Funeral Home in English, Indiana at 12:00 pm on the 26th day of September. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Pastor Adam Conder will officiate. Burial will follow in Taswell Cemetery.
