Mary Martin
Fannin
Dec 11, 1960 — Nov 14, 2023
Ferdinand
Mary Martin Fannin got on the highway to Heaven on November 14, 2023, at 12:55 with her sister by her side along with her favorite play buddies, Lorie, Debbie and Darlene.
She was born December 11, 1962, to Jess Fannin Jr. and Dorothy Jo Martin Fannin in Ashland Ky. Mary Martin was born in an era when kids with disabilities were hidden from sight. Few expectations were placed on these kids. As time went on, the love of her sister and parents proved that she could accomplish many things including being able to walk, feed herself and communicate needs through her facial expressions and noises. She was a happy girl and always had a smile on her face.
She had been a 30-year group home resident with Blue River Services. However, due to several aspiration issues resulting in hospitalizations, she was finally moved into Scenic Hills, at Ferdinand Indiana. This is where she found a purpose in life to entertain the residents as well provide comfort to the staff with her love and laughter along with her mischievous ways. She received her day programming at Palmyra Habilitation Center while living in the group home setting.
Her hobbies included eating, sneaking food from others, playing ball and giving tight hugs or love pats. Her laugh was infectious and should be a ring tone to make everyone smile. She would cry if you did, grab your food or drink if you weren't paying attention. She could fake a cry to get attention or to get her sister in trouble as she was having her hands washed. She knew how to brighten the worst of days and was full of unconditional love for anyone willing to accept it.
She was proceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Jessica J Fannin, her favorite 'running' playmate, Lorie J Poole. Other favorite playmates include the team of Debbie Kennington and Darlene Dilger, along with several staff members from Scenic Hills.
Visitation will be at Denbo Funeral home in English, IN on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. A burial in Tell City will take place at a later date.
