Maxine Standiford Redding, age 95, of Legacy Living in Jasper, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 6 ^th , 2022.

She was born on the family farm, 3 miles north of English, to Ray and Pearl (McDonald) Standiford on April 26th, 1927.

Maxine graduated, with honors, from English Sterling High in 1944 and Indiana University in 1948.  She met her future husband Milo Frank Redding of Michigan City, Indiana, at Indiana University.  They married in 1953 and moved to Connecticut where their daughter Elizabeth Standiford Redding was born in 1955.  In 1957, they moved to New York City, where their son Frank Richard Redding was born.  Maxine remained in New York until her retirement in 1993.

In the 1960s, Maxine entered the workforce as a secretary for New York University School of Law.  Over the course of her career, she rose to the position of Dean of Fiscal Management of NYU Law School, achieving the distinction of being the first individual at a major US law school to be granted the title of Dean without holding a law degree.  During her tenure, she ensured judicious fiscal management, oversaw major capital construction projects, and became a trusted partner of the law school's leadership and faculty.  Maxine thoroughly enjoyed all the culture and liveliness that life in Greenwich Village and greater Manhattan afforded.

In 1993, Maxine returned to the family farm and began the next phase of her life as a Master Gardener.  She was a great admirer of the English gardens that she had visited during her travels to Europe as a young college graduate.  She proceeded to transform the grounds surrounding the old farmhouse into her version of a British garden.  Her flower beds and plantings remain to this day as a testament to her dedication to gardening.

Maxine also cared deeply about Crawford County.  She served on the board of directors of the Crawford County Community Foundation for several years, including serving as Chairwoman from 2005-2008.  Maxine established a fund to support the Children's Peacock Theater and worked diligently to help the Foundation obtain grants for the community.  She was also a member of the Crawford County Historical and Genealogical Society.

In early 2016, as the task of maintaining her childhood home grew too large and with a desire to be closer to her children and grandchildren, Maxine left the farm and moved to Richmond, Virginia.  There, her enjoyment of culture and city liveliness was renewed.   She enjoyed Richmond City Ballet and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as well as being able to watch her grandson walk back and forth to school from the window of her 7 ^th floor condo.

On her 94 ^th birthday, Maxine traveled, along with her faithful cat August, from Richmond to Jasper, Indiana, to take up residence at Legacy Living. There, she enjoyed seeing more of her extended family and grew to love the wonderful caretakers who helped look after her.

Maxine is survived by her children, Elizabeth Redding of Corydon, and Frank Redding (Tami) of English, as well as her grandchildren Brooke Hajny (Brandon) of Albuquerque, NM, and Eli Redding of English, two great-grandchildren Eowyn and Peter Hajny, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Pauline West and her brother Donald (Donnie) Standiford.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 18 ^th , at Denbo Funeral Home in English.  Visitation will begin at 12 noon with a service starting at 1:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orange County Humane Society, 856 N Greenbriar Dr, Paoli, IN 47454.  Interment will be at Stewart Cemetery, north of English, following the service.
