On April 21, 1973 he married Cathy (Patton)Staten and she survives.
He worked at Louisville Forge and Gear in Georgetown, KY. Gary retired in 2007.
Gary was an avid IU Basketball fan, he also enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, gardening and working in his church.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3rd at Highfill Chapel Baptist Church in Taswell, IN. Burial will follow in Highfill Chapel Cemetery in Taswell, IN.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2nd at Denbo Funeral Home in English and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, June 3rd at Highfill Chapel Baptist Church in Taswell, IN .
