Obituary

Vernal "Red" Leon Levell, 82, of Martinsville, Indiana formally of English, Indiana passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in the St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born on April 24, 1941, in Curby, Indiana to the late Elwood and Golda (Underhill) Levell.

Red was also a veteran of the Vietnam War where he faithfully served his country and did his basic training at Fort Dix.  He married Clarice on July 8, 1976.  He retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis, IN, UAW 1963.  Red enjoyed living a simple life where he loved to fish, hunt, garden and he loved his many dogs that he had over the years.  He took more than one trip to Canada to Ice Fish. Red always enjoy coming to Crawford County where he loved visiting family and friends.  He was a member Eckerty Masonic Lodge 419, VFW Post 1120 of Indianapolis and the American Legion Post 84 of Marengo, IN.

Vernal is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Clarice Levell, his parents, Elwood and Golda Levell and his brother-in-law Marshal McNutt.

He is survived by his sisters; Betty McNutt, Jan Levell and Sharon (Jerry) Armstrong, his nieces; Rhonda (Steven) Hunt, Renee (Mark) Manship and Robin (Neil) Bowman and nephew Ryan Armstrong, and several great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at the Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo, IN.

Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Philo Jones with burial to follow in the El Bethel Cemetery. The honor of Pallbearers will be Steven Hunt, Noah Manship, Zane Manship, Ryan Armstrong, Jared Armstrong, Neil Bowman and Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry and Evan Armstrong.
