Obituary
Bruce Raymond Vernon, age 69, of Valeene, IN passed on September 12, 2023, at Cape Sandy Quarry Leavenworth, IN.
He was born on November 2, 1953, to Karl and Mildred (Bullington) Vernon in Paoli, IN.
Bruce Graduated from Paoli High School, class of 1971, he then went on to graduate from IUPUI and worked at Gorge Nursing Home (Medco) as a Healthcare Administrator, then went to Kimball Piano for 20 years. He was a former employee of Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and a current employee of Mulzer Crushed Stone, where he had worked for 25 years. Bruce was a member of the Cross Roads Church of Christ in Marengo, IN. He was an avid IU sports fan and enjoyed teaching his 3 sons sports and chewing tobacco. Bruce loved being at home in the Vernon Family Homeplace in Valeene, IN. He would show up for work about an hour early just to joke and have fun with the people he worked with. Bruce loved his grandchildren and spending time with his wife and family. He enjoyed spending time reading and watching old westerns.
Preceding Bruce in death are his parents.
Surviving Bruce is his wife, Sheila (Hammond) Vernon, sons; Joshua Vernon of Marengo, Samuel (Amanda) Vernon of French Lick, and Caleb (Lindsey) Vernon of Paoli, grandchildren; Kyra (Brennon) Smoot, Micah Vernon, Jackson Vernon, Chaeli Vernon, Kendall Vernon, Maddie Vernon, Quinn Vernon and Carter Vernon, great-grandchildren; Ivy and Lucas Smoot, siblings; Keith Vernon, Edith Wisehart, and Martha Hess, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and in-laws.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo, IN.
A Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 11:00 am at The Valeene Christian Church Cemetery in Valeene, IN., with Bro. Dennie Moon officiating the service.
